St Laurence’s College students enjoy a wide variety of art activities that extend their classroom experiences, catering for the gifted and talented, targeting those with specific interests and generally designed to ensure everyone has the chance to excel. The Art staff room and classroom noticeboards frequently promote a range of activities, competitions, exhibitions and events that cater for individual interests.

These are often promoted through the College Newsletter and students are encouraged to consider participating.

Each year the school hosts major exhibitions of student art work in Gallery spaces off-campus. These opportunities showcase the work by individuals and classes in a dedicated art space enabling the wider school community to gather and celebrate the diverse abilities of the boys. These exhibitions promote participation and excellence and are a highlight of the year for the ‘creative’ in our school. The mid-year exhibition is called ‘Survey’ and we change the focus of this show each year to cater for a range of themes and current issues.

At the end of year we host the Annual Art Awards and Exhibition, which aims to highlight the outstanding efforts of the students during the year and has some awards attached to encourage excellence. The whole SLC community supports these events and provide an enthusiastic audience for the student’s work.

All students are encouraged to participate in community-based projects, exhibitions and competitions as a way of extending their abilities and horizons. Each year student work is submitted in regional art and design competitions and exhibitions. It’s a real thrill to see boys acknowledged for their extra effort when they achieve recognition. Some recent participants and winners are featured here on our website.

During the year student artwork is promoted throughout the school with changing displays in the staffrooms, offices and libraries. If you would like to host some artworks for your office, why not give us a call in the Art Department.
