FAQs

FAQs

WHERE DO WE GO FOR ONLINE LEARNING?
LAURIES@HOME is your central platform for the resources you require for continuous learning @Home. Students will utilise online platforms including Sloodle, Microsoft Teams and Student Cafe. Each week, students will be emailed coursework. These weekly outlines will direct them to all of the available online resources. Students have trialled online learning through Microsoft Teams towards the end of Term 1. Microsoft Teams will be used to conduct ‘live’ lessons or tutorials. Diagnostic testing will also occur every fortnight. Feedback will be provided to guide students in their learning and clarify misconceptions.

WILL THE TIMETABLED CLASS ROLL CALL BE CONDUCTED VIA TEAMS AND HOW WILL THIS WORK?
Class rolls will not be marked in the same way that they would be if all students were present at school. Students are required to "check in" between 8.30am and 9am daily. Student engagement and attendance will be monitored by House Mentors and classroom teachers. Students who are disengaged with their learning will be contacted directly. Parents may will also be informed if there is a continuing pattern of disengagement.

HOW DO I LOG ON/ SIGN ON FOR THE DAY?
A video has been emailed to students and caregivers detailing this process. This video can be found in the Useful Videos section of LAURIES@HOME.

WHAT WILL A LESSON LOOK LIKE?
Learning @Home may look different to regular schooling.Students do not need to stick to the typical 50 minute lesson structure. They may negotiate with parents to divide up their work into shorter ‘chunks’ of about 30 minutes duration or longer ‘sessions’ – typically around 1.5 hours long. When teachers are conducting live lessons using Teams, these may be conducted for a full period of 50 minutes, or part of that period. Students are reminded to ensure that they email their classroom teacher if they need assistance with classwork.

HOW MANY HOURS PER DAY ARE THE BOYS EXPECTED TO DO LESSONS?
In order to maintain routine and continuity of learning, students are expected to keep up to date with their classwork. Younger students should complete approximately 3 hours of work each day within the normal school day. Older students, typically in the Senior School, should endeavour to complete 4-5 hours per day but may choose to spread their schedule into the evening if this helps them to maximise their performance.

WILL THERE BE A MODIFIED TIMETABLE OR WILL STUDENTS FOLLOW THEIR USUAL TIMETABLE?
The timetable will operate as normal to ensure that ‘live’ lessons can be conducted within a regular timetabled lesson. Students may make adjustments to their timetable to complete the weekly work in their preferred manner.

IS MICROSOFT TEAMS GOING TO BE USED?
Learning @Home will be delivered using Microsoft Teams in addition to other College approved online applications including Stile, Sloodle, OneNote, PowerPoint, Outlook.
