FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I have been most pleased with the application of our Year 5, 7 & 9 boys as they complete NAPLAN testing for 2022. Many staff have been involved in preparing the boys for these tests. NAPLAN provides valuable data to assist us with supporting our students’ learning. This data as well as several other sources allows us to target specific areas of growth. I thank Dr Herbert, Ms Gunn, Mrs Harris, Mr Smith, Ms Bell, Ms Hall, Mrs Jordan, Mrs Kentrotis, Ms Smallacombe, Mr Russell, Mr Plowman, Year 5 teachers and IT staff for their work here.
YEAR 11 EXAMS
Our Year 11 students begin exam block on Thursday of this week. Mr Knight has reinforced our expectations over this period as it is a privilege to have this flexible exam block. This period allows the boys to have the best possible opportunity to achieve good results.
ROUND 3 AIC SPORT
The AIC Principals have taken the decision to cancel all Round 3 Rugby, Football & Chess fixtures this weekend. Obviously, many grounds are unplayable for both Rugby and Football. We are also aware that some families at AIC schools are once again flood affected. It is not safe or possible for some families to journey to sports events. Because of this, Chess has also been cancelled for tonight. In the spirit of AIC, we felt that should some games proceed and others be cancelled that this would not be fair for all school communities. We hope to have a full round of fixtures in Round 4.
YEAR 5 & 7 TRANSITION DATA
This year we have surveyed our Year 5 and Year 7 boys as they begin their Lauries’ Journey or move into Secondary Education. The aim is to hear from the students about their experiences at the College and to hear their voices to improve our practice into the future.
The results of these surveys shows that the vast majority of boys have settled very well into College life. It is obvious from the data, that many boys struggle with the different pace of learning at the college. However, the boys feel safe, accepted and they value the relationships with staff. Following further analysis of these reports, we will alter our transition program in both Primary and Secondary school.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Most Friday mornings, I meet with Lachlan Rolls (Captain), James Francis (Vice-Captain) and Jonathan Heard (Vice-Captain) to speak about their wellbeing and to support them in their leadership at the college. These meetings are excellent and provide me with some valuable insights. I am most impressed with our student leaders and the Year 12 cohort in the way that they model servant leadership and consider the welfare of the younger boys. Culturally this is most significant for me. I congratulate the Year 12 cohort for this leadership over the course of this year. They love their school.
LAURIES COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
On Monday evening, our Director of IT, Mr Nick Lieschke and Dean of Middle School, Ms Vanessa Bell spoke to the parents in attendance at the LCC. Nick spoke of IT developments and plans for the future. Ms Bell spoke of some exciting initiatives in the area of parent engagement and information. I thank Tanya Hansen and her committee for facilitating this night.
I trust that the weather improves, and I pray that we all can stay safe and well in the coming days
