AIC Sport Wrap-Up – Term 3

Term 3 AIC Sport is off to a flying start, with our Basketball, Rugby League and Tennis teams kicking off their seasons last weekend against Villanova College. It was a fantastic weekend of sport, filled with competitive matches and strong team spirit across all year levels.

While our Firsts teams were narrowly defeated in tightly contested games, the determination and effort shown by all players were outstanding. There is no doubt that all three teams have the potential for a successful season ahead and we look forward to seeing their continued progress.

Sports Day 2025 – Important Update

Due to the ongoing facility upgrades at Runcorn, this year’s Sports Day will look a little different. The majority of events will now be held across Fields 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. While the layout may change, the spirit of the day—our strong sense of community, friendly competition and school pride—will remain very much the same.

Further details regarding the event schedule, layout and logistics will be shared with families next week. We look forward to another fantastic Sports Day celebration in 2025!

Bill Turner Cup Football – South QLD Finalists

This year marked Lauries’ return to the prestigious Bill Turner Cup, a national competition for Under 15 Boys' Football. Our team embarked on an impressive Cup run, advancing all the way to the South Queensland Area Final.

Despite a loss to a talented Palm Beach side in the final, the team’s journey was marked by excellent performances and a tremendous team spirit. With many players eligible again in 2026, the future is bright for this group.

A big thank you to Mr Jamie Davies and Mr Colm Rafferty for their dedicated coaching and support of the team throughout the campaign.

AIC Golf Champions – A Historic Win!

Last week, Lauries claimed victory at the AIC Golf Championships, held at the Keperra Country Club. Our team performed exceptionally well, securing the prestigious Gordon Balharry Shield, awarded to the school with the best overall net score.

This marks the first time in 24 years that Lauries has won the AIC Golf title—an outstanding accomplishment and testament to the dedication and skill of our student golfers.

Special thanks to Mr Jesse D’Amico for his leadership and organisation of the Golf program. While Golf has often been an under-the-radar sport, its resurgence across the AIC is clear, and it was fantastic to see our Lauries boys get the win!

SLC Tennis Championships a Huge Success

The SLC Tennis Championships took place on Sunday, 13 July, at the Griffith University Tennis Centre – and what a fantastic day it was! With nearly 90 boys competing, the courts were full of energy, enthusiasm, and some very impressive tennis.

The event brought together players from all year levels, creating a great sense of community and friendly competition. It was awesome to see so many students giving it their all, whether they were seasoned players or just enjoying the chance to get on court and have a go. The positive attitudes and sportsmanship on display made the day even more enjoyable for players, families, and staff.

Throughout the day, matches were played in a fun but competitive spirit. There were plenty of long rallies, clever shots, and close contests that kept everyone engaged. The younger students showed fantastic effort and potential, while the older players demonstrated their experience and skill.

The Opens Final was a definite highlight, with Hayden Revell and Ethan Connelly going head-to-head in a very competitive match. Both players showcased some excellent tennis, with strong serves, smart play, and plenty of determination. After some great rallies and points, Ethan Connelly took out the win to finish the day on a high.

A huge thank you goes to all the students who participated for their enthusiasm and effort, and to the families and friends who came along to cheer them on. We’d also like to recognise the coaches and staff for their support in making the event run so smoothly. It was a fantastic way to celebrate tennis at SLC, and we are excited about this year's AIC tennis season.
