Lauries Primary Curriculum Update - Jon Tracey

Laurie’s Primary Curriculum Update

On Tuesday, May 20th, a group of eight Year 6 students from our Primary School proudly represented our school at the Da Vinci Decathlon, held at Brisbane Boys College. This exciting academic competition brought together students from across Queensland, challenging them to tackle complex problems across ten diverse subjects. It was the first time we participated in this event, and our team gave an outstanding performance.

The team, consisting of Flynn Chambers, Tristan Wall, Hugo O’Connor, Charlie Jerdan, Austin Howlett, Roy Seo, Frank De Luca, and Isaac Bird, worked hard to prepare for the event. We’d also like to extend a huge thank you to Josh Drew and Jonathan McIntyre from Year 5, who helped as reserves and practiced alongside the team during lunch breaks. Their support and commitment were invaluable.

Our students competed in a wide range of disciplines, including Science, English, Ideation, Creative Producers, Engineering, Art and Poetry, Cartography, Legacy, and Code Breaking. Each subject tested their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, providing an excellent opportunity for them to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities.

From designing innovative solutions in Engineering to crafting thoughtful poems in Art and Poetry, the students embraced each challenge with enthusiasm. They showcased their scientific expertise, navigated intricate Cartography tasks, and displayed impressive quick-thinking skills in Code Breaking. Their teamwork and dedication were evident as they collaborated on Ideation challenges and tackled complex Legacy tasks (general knowledge).

Competing against schools from across Queensland, our team displayed remarkable resilience, dedication, and enthusiasm throughout the day. Their performance clearly reflected the values of perseverance, collaboration, and academic excellence.

A massive congratulations to each member of the team for their outstanding efforts. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the way they represented our school with such pride. This experience not only highlighted their individual talents but also showcased the power of teamwork and determination in overcoming challenges.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Mrs. Leszczynski for helping to prepare the boys for this competition.

We eagerly look forward to the opportunity to participate again next year and continue building on this fantastic experience for our students to stretch their thinking!
