Dean of Primary- 1 August

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

The past two weeks have been extremely busy for both year levels. The Academic Assembly and afternoon tea, on Wednesday, provided a great opportunity to acknowledge, celebrate and congratulate boys who achieved personal excellence in Semester One. We congratulate all of the award winners and encourage all boys to strive for their best in Semester 2.  Well done, boys! Please see list below:-

Academic Award Winners

Yesterday, we conducted the annual College Open Day. It was a great opportunity for current and future families to experience the College.  The displays and tours are a good way for guests to see the College and for boys to share their experiences of the Lauries Journey. I thank all of the boys and staff who contributed to Open Day (especially in the Primary Precinct) for their time and effort.  I know the boys love to talk about our community and I know lots of future parents were very impressed with the passion and maturity of the boys who helped. Good job boys!

Term 3 studies are in full swing, with outstanding work occurring in all classrooms. Both year levels have excursions coming up to support classroom learning. Year 6 classes will be attending an excursion to St Stephens Cathedral next week as part of their Religion unit, whilst our Year 5 classes will spend next Thursday at Runcorn, to study the environment around the creek area for their geography studies. These excursions provide a fantastic opportunity for the boys to extend their understanding of concepts being covered in classrooms

Upcoming Events and External Presentations

On Monday evening 4 August, parents are invited to hear from Dr Justin Coulson.   Dr Coulson is an expert in adolescent development.  He will be presenting on “Cultivating Confidence and Character in your Teenage Son”.  You can register to attend here. The presentation will take place in ERPAC from 6:00-7:30pm

On Tuesday 5 August, all boys from Year 5-12 will attend a presentation from Daniel Principe.  He will speak on the topic of “Young People in the Digital World”.

It is fantastic to have such rich opportunities for boys and parents to hear from experts on these importation subjects.

Over the coming weeks, we will celebrate some significant community events. Next Friday, 8 August we will celebrate the Solidarity Mass and join with the Secondary boys for the Walkathon. It will again be a magnificent event. It is so important to our school culture to do things in support of others.  Lauries boys are famous for caring for others and lending a hand. The Walkathon is a perfect example of that spirit.  We encourage all boys to continue to raise valuable sponsorship to support the “House” charities.

On Wednesday, 13 August, we will gather at our sports fields at Runcorn for the “House Sports Day”.  It is great community day for all boys and families.

A reminder that 14-15 August are College holidays. There also is no school sport that weekend 16 August. We hope all families enjoy a mini break after the Sports Day.

On Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (14-17 August) many Primary boys will perform at the QCMF.  The boys have been amazing at rehearsals all year and we look forward to some great performances across the festival schedule. I thank all of the fantastic music staff for supporting our young musicians.

Father’s Day

We are looking forward to the Primary “Father’s Day” celebration coming up on Wednesday, 3 September (Week 8). We will start with a sausage sizzle outside ERPAC at 4:00pm.  At 4:45pm we will then move inside to “watch a movie with dad”.  The movie will be advertised soon and siblings are most welcome. It is absolutely essential to RSVP by the 18 August to allow for catering. Click here to RSVP.
