St Laurence’s College has been recognised for the second year in a row as an Excellence Awardee for the Secondary School of the Year - Non Government at the prestigious Australian Education Awards.

This accolade highlights the exceptional contributions of the College to the educational landscape in Australia, particularly in the 2024 academic year.

The award is based on several key criteria including consistently high standards of teaching and learning, academic and other achievements during the 2024 school year, rigorous professional learning to improve teaching and curriculum delivery, strong communication links with students, parents, teachers and the wider community, effective management of facilities, finances and human resources and a demonstrated commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

College Principal Mr Ben Lowrie expressed his pride in the recognition:

“St Laurence’s College is honoured to recognised as an Excellence Awardee. As a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition, we are proud to create an environment where students can thrive holistically. This achievement is reflective of the hard work and dedication of our staff and students and the support from our wider College community – families, Old Boys and partners.”

Deputy Principal Dr Liam Herbert shared his excitement about the accolade:

“We are very humbled and excited about once again, being recognised for this award,” said Dr Liam Herbert.

“This accolade is dedicated to our staff, students and community members who all contribute to make our school a truly special place. We are filled with tremendous pride and feel a sense of gratitude for the privilege of being part of this authentic Edmund Rice community – one that continues to honour the legacy of the Christian Brothers.”

The Australian Education Awards are the leading independent national awards in the K-12 education sector, celebrating top-performing schools that make a significant impact on the lives of young people across Australia. With hundreds of nominations, being selected among the top eight schools in Australia is a tremendous honour for St Laurence’s College.

The College is now in the running for the major prize and the title of Secondary School of the Year - Non-Government for 2025, which will be awarded at the ceremony in August.
