Celebrating Leadership Opportunities in Primary
by Dean of Primary, Mr Cameron Wigan
At Lauries, in the Primary School, we believe in nurturing the potential of every student and providing them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills. Our student leadership programs are designed to empower young learners, allowing them to take on responsibilities, make meaningful contributions and grow into confident and capable leaders, through service to others. We celebrate the various leadership roles available to our Primary School students and the incredible impact they have on our school community and the wider community.
Primary School Leaders
Our Primary School Leaders play a pivotal role in organising and hosting Primary assemblies. These assemblies are a platform where students come together, share their achievements and discuss areas for improvement. The Primary School Leaders are responsible for highlighting aspects of the school that deserve celebration, such as academic achievements, sports victories and acts of kindness. They also address areas where we can grow, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. By taking on these responsibilities, our Primary School Leaders develop essential skills such as public speaking, organisation and teamwork. Student voice is critical to building a culture of welcome, ownership and authenticity. The Primary School Leaders ensure these positive cultural traits are modelled and sustainable.
Primary Music Leaders
Music is an integral part of our school culture and our Primary Music Leaders are at the forefront of promoting and celebrating musical talent. These leaders host and compere music concerts, providing a stage for students to showcase their musical abilities. Additionally, they deliver fortnightly presentations at assemblies, sharing updates on all things music-related. Whether it's introducing new instruments, highlighting upcoming performances or celebrating the achievements of our young musicians, the Primary Music Leaders ensure that music remains a vibrant and exciting part of our school life. Through their involvement, they gain confidence, leadership skills and a deeper appreciation for the arts.
Mini Vinnies Committee
The Mini Vinnies Committee is a shining example of our commitment to Faith in Action. This dedicated group of students leads all of the Faith in Action initiatives for the Primary School. They present at assemblies, visit classrooms to promote current events and handle the logistics for fundraising events. From planning to execution, the Mini Vinnies committee ensures that every event runs smoothly and achieves its goals. Their efforts not only raise funds for important causes but also instils a sense of social responsibility and compassion in our students. By participating in the Mini Vinnies Committee, students learn valuable skills such as project management, communication and empathy.
Embracing Leadership Opportunities
At Lauries, we are proud to offer a diverse range of leadership opportunities for our younger students. These roles are not just about taking on responsibilities; they are about personal growth, community building and making a positive impact. We celebrate the amazing opportunities for younger students to step into leadership roles and we are committed to supporting them every step of the way. By embracing these opportunities, our students develop into well-rounded individuals who are ready to serve and lead with confidence, integrity and a strong sense of purpose.
