With the annual House Choir approaching, our Dean of Students, Mr David Knight takes a look at the House Cup, its benefits and its legacy.

A Journey Through Triumph and Tradition

In 2019, St Laurence’s College introduced a vertical House system designed to enhance Pastoral Care and student development. This system aims to foster community values and support students through their educational journey. Each student is assigned to one of ten Houses, creating a network of support. These Houses have become family units where students are able to form lasting bonds. The House system encourages qualities like resilience and leadership, with Senior students mentoring their juniors, thereby nurturing a sense of responsibility and unity.

As the Dean of Students of St Laurence’s College, it gives me great pleasure to reflect on the vibrant tradition of our House structure and the annual House Cup. This competition, renowned for fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship and excellence across academics, sports, arts and community service, is a testament to our values.

The House Cup competitions are held throughout the year and involve various academic, sporting and cultural events. These competitions serve as a platform for students to showcase their talents and strive for excellence, promoting healthy rivalry and personal growth. Houses compete passionately, fostering a spirit of brotherhood and connection to tradition. Each House carries the legacy of significant individuals or places and participating in these events helps students connect with this rich heritage. As students wear their House colours and compete, they develop character and prepare for life beyond the College, emphasising the journey's importance as much as the destination. Allow me to take you through the remarkable journey of the House Cup over the past six years.

House Cup: A Tradition of Excellence

The House Cup at St Laurence’s College is more than just a competition; it is a tradition that embodies our values and ethos. It encourages students to strive for excellence, work as a team and develop a sense of responsibility and leadership. Each year, the House Cup brings out the best in students, motivating them to achieve their personal best and contribute positively to the school community.

As we look forward to the future, the House Cup will continue to be a cornerstone of the St Laurence’s College experience. It will remain a platform for students to excel, grow and develop into confident, compassionate and responsible individuals. The legacy of the House Cup winners from the past years serves as an inspiration for future generations. As we celebrate the triumphs of the past and look forward to the future, we remain committed to fostering an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially and spiritually.
