Lauries Sports Update – An Action-Packed Holiday Season of Training and Competition

Over the holiday period, our sports teams were engaged in a flurry of activity, participating in various tours, tournaments, and training camps. It was an incredibly busy and exciting time, ensuring our students remained active and well-prepared for the upcoming season.

A heartfelt thank you to all the staff members who dedicated their time and effort throughout the six-week break, supporting and caring for our students. Your commitment is truly appreciated. Additionally, many students took advantage of the Gym at St Laurence’s, working hard to ensure they enter the season in peak condition.

USA Basketball Tour
Our basketball students embarked on an unforgettable USA tour, visiting Texas to compete in two high-level tournaments. They also had the incredible opportunity to attend three NBA games, making for a truly immersive basketball experience. A huge thank you goes to Mr. Tim Smith for his outstanding organization of this tour, ensuring that our students had a memorable and enriching experience.

Man City Football Schools Cup
Our Man City Football students took part in the inaugural Man City Australia Football Schools Cup, with 3 teams competing at the Tournament. This tournament provided an excellent platform for our players to showcase their skills and experience high-quality competition against all the other Man City Football Schools in Australia. A big thank you to our Man City Schools Head Coach, Mr. Jamie Davies, for his efforts in organizing this tour. It was a fantastic experience, and we look forward to making this an annual highlight for our football students.

Swim Team Training Camp at Currimundi
Our swim team spent three productive days at a high-intensity training camp in Currimundi, focusing on skill refinement and team bonding. A special thank you to our Director of Swimming, Ms. Meg Jacobs, for her leadership and meticulous organization in making the camp a great success.

Cricket Trials and Tournaments
Cricket was in full swing over the break, with our teams participating in trial games and competing in two AIC T20 tournaments. A special congratulations to our Year 10 Cricket Team, who emerged victorious in the AIC Year 10 T20 competition. A big thank you to our First XI Coach, Cameron Wigan, and our Director of Cricket, Mr. Sam Wiltshire, for their dedication and hard work in preparing our teams.

AFL Training and Trials
Our AFL teams also remained active during the break, engaging in rigorous training and trials. A heartfelt thank you to our Director of AFL, Mr. Josh Ferguson, for his dedication and assistance in making these sessions possible.

Volleyball Training and Trials
Volleyball saw significant preparation during the break with training and trials taking place. A special thanks to our Director of Volleyball, Mr. Anthony Bird, for his commitment and hard work in ensuring our teams are ready for the upcoming season.

AIC Trials Kick Off This Weekend
This weekend marks the official start of AIC Trials, with Lauries set to face Padua College. Our Senior Teams will be playing at away venues, while our Junior Teams will compete at home. Best of luck to all teams involved! With such a strong start to the year, 2025 is shaping up to be another massive year for sport at Lauries!
