There, you can access up to date resume and cover letter templates, gain insights into work experience opportunities in 2024, explore presentation slides used in information sessions for both students and parents, make a tax file number application, and explore university study options while still in school.

Aussie Athletes Agency information afternoon
On Wednesday, several students and parents joined our Aussie Athletes Agency information session, which highlighted US sporting scholarship opportunities. David Hodge discussed the benefits and academic requirements, offering valuable support to our families.
Engineering and STEM opportunity
Oresome Minds Camp
The QMEA Oresome Minds Camp is designed for Year 11 and 12 students who are interested in pursuing a university STEM pathway, with a focus on careers in the resources sector. This camp will be held in partnership with Glencore Mount Isa Mines at their Mount Isa mine facility from 6 - 11 July. Please note that while all costs for accommodation, meals, and social events are covered, flights to Mount Isa must be arranged and paid for by the participant.
The QMEA Oresome Engineering Camp is tailored for Year 10 students passionate about engineering, science, mathematics, and other related professional fields. It will take place at the University of Queensland, Brisbane from 7th – 10th July. For this camp, all expenses, including flights, accommodation, meals, and social events, are fully covered.

On 1 April QUT will be hosting a START QUT webinar for Year 11 student who are wanting to study a Uni subject during Semester 2.With the START QUT program, syou can receive a selection rank adjustment, gain potential credit towards a future degree at QUT and test drive university life. University of Melbourne updates
The UniMelb 101 for QLD students, taking place on Tues 18 March at 6pm is a live and online Q&A designed for students to ask their questions about study at Melbourne, entry requirements specific to the QCE curriculum and the exciting student life and community that awaits.

The following information regarding key dates will aid your organisation and preparation.
Bookings open: Tuesday 4 March 2025

Testing period: 1 July - 5 August 2025
ANU: Applications open now
Students can begin applying direct to the Australian National University in just a few weeks with applications opening on 3 March 2025.
Applications are free and include applying for admission, accommodation and scholarships in one application.
Offers will be initially released in September using Year 11 or equivalent results and adjustment factors to calculate their selection rank. Students who receive an offer need to complete their final year and obtain an ATAR or equivalent.

Tuckwell Scholarship – Australian National University (ANU)
The Tuckwell Scholarship Program grants up to 25 scholarships annually, providing gifted and driven students with the chance to unlock their potential through financial assistance, personal growth, and developmental opportunities. Students can build connections and gain insights from fellow recipients in our on-campus residence, Scholars House.
This scholarship spans three to five years of undergraduate study at ANU, with a value ranging from $76,000 to $136,000.
Academically high achieving students who are open to the idea of studying interstate next year are encouraged to read through the terms of the scholarship and consider applying. Applications are due by early April.
NOTE: if a student applies and is successful, but changes their mind later, they are not obliged to go, so students who are unsure can still apply and consider their final decision around where they will study throughout the year.

Preparations for this years’ SLConX Careers Networking Events are underway, with the topics for this year being:

- 2 June – Careers in Trades
- 26 August – Careers in STEM

Defence Force work experience program
The Defence Work Experience Program provides opportunities for young Australians interested in a career at Defence to gain exposure to the type of work that is available. Defence is committed to providing a national work experience program designed to:
- demonstrate the wide variety of interesting careers available within Defence
- ease the transition of students into the workplace
- contribute to the development of the skills of young Australians.
Opportunities are available for both secondary and tertiary students and you must be at least 15 years of age at the time of the placement. Click here for more information including:

Vocational Training and Support
Hastings Deering
Hastings Deering is excited to launch Caterpillar's Technicians for the World program, a free online learning platform designed to provide students with the foundational mechanical skills and industry knowledge they need to successfully gain an apprenticeship.
Technicians for the World – A Head Start in the Industry
This online program includes 22 CAT® training modules that introduce students to key mechanical concepts and real-world industry practices. Completing this program will:
- Enhance their understanding of essential trade skills
- Provide valuable insights into the heavy equipment industry
- Strengthen their application for the Hastings Deering apprenticeship intake
