From the Music Department

Term 2 is set to be a big one for the Lauries Music Program, with concerts, workshops, and recitals happening over the next eight weeks. Performances start next week with Intermediate and Senior Ensembles Concerts, followed by the Junior Ensembles Concert in Week 5. The Junior Ensembles concert will also include debut performances from the Year 5 Concert Band, String Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble and Choir.

The highlight event for the Semester is the Cabaret Concert, themed ‘Fantasy & Fairytales’. This magical evening will feature performances from our senior ensembles, with special guest appearances by the Little Brotherhood. The Music Department will also collaborate with both the Media Department and AV Production Crew to elevate the event to the next level. Entry for all these concerts is via donation, and all are welcome to attend to support your peers.

Workshops this Term will include one targeted to middle school students interested in participating in LIZID in Term 3. This workshop will cover the basics of rock band set-up and performance skills.

The LIZID Festival preparations get underway this Term with a meeting this Thursday, morning tea, in Mu1. Anyone interested in performing, being part of the audio/lighting crew or event promo team are invited to this meeting.

In Week 6, Guitar Orchestra 1 will also combine with St Rita’s College for their workshop & concert before both Guitar Orchestra 2 and Concert Band 3 combine with St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.

There are also opportunities for students learning selected instruments through the college to perform for family and friends at dedicated recitals. This Semester will include Voice, Piano, Strings and Brass.

Students also enrolled in the co-curricular speech and drama program will also perform at their showcase in week 8. Again, all are welcome to attend.

ANZAC Ceremony

Congratulations to all choirs and Concert Band 1 on your outstanding musical contribution at the College ANZAC ceremony this week.  A special thanks to Bugler, Xavier Kendall Year 8 for a wonderful sounding of the Last Post and Rouse.
