From the Principal

Welcome to the College Newsletter for Week 7 of Term 2, 2025.

As I write this newsletter, I am currently attending the National EREA Principals' Conference. This gathering offers a valuable opportunity to reflect on the values that underpin our College and to engage with emerging educational trends that will shape our future. It is affirming to see that, despite delegates coming from diverse sectors, states, and school compositions, there is a shared belief in the importance of Catholic education grounded in the Edmund Rice Charism.

This understanding is deeply embedded throughout St Laurence’s College and is highlighted this week by the nomination of four of our staff members for the Spirit of Catholic Education Award. I congratulate Mr Cameron Wigan, Mrs Karen Kindt, Mr Anthony Samios, and Ms Kerri-Anne O’Neil on their well-deserved nominations and the meaningful impact they have made on our community. Their dedication is deeply valued, and each is truly worthy of this recognition.

This week, our Cross-Country team competed in the AIC Championships at Curlew Park, Shorncliffe. During the event presentation, it was noted that cross country is a demanding sport that requires individual strength and perseverance. This is undoubtedly true, and I commend our runners across all age groups for representing the College with great determination and spirit. I congratulate every athlete on their efforts and sincerely thank the coaching staff for their dedication and commitment in preparing the team for this championship. Special congratulations to Lachlan Gordon, who won the U13 race, Ethan Trieu, who claimed an impressive 3rd Place finish, and our Open runners who competed for the College for the last time.

On Wednesday evening, the College hosted our Donor Thank You Evening to honour a group of generous individuals who annually contribute to directly support others in our community. This group includes members of the College Foundation, donors, sponsors, and many other supportive individuals. The evening served as an acknowledgment of their kindness and their commitment to providing a St Laurence’s education for others. I offer my sincerest thanks to this group, as well as to all members of our community who give so generously to support others.

With only two weeks remaining in the academic Term, this is an important time for both students and families. Continuing good habits, maintaining study schedules, and planning for exams and assignments is essential. It’s also an ideal opportunity for families to check in with their young men and ensure they are on track to achieve personal success before the holidays.

I wish all students competing for the College this week in Chess, Football, and Rugby Union the very best in their matches against Iona.
