Our Year 10 students had a great time attending the Brisbane Careers and Employment Expo! A fantastic opportunity to explore future pathways, meet industry representatives, and gather inspiration for what lies ahead.

  • Industry rotations with guest speaker panels – Students will choose two industry sessions to attend, where they will hear directly from professionals working in the field.

Opening of Admissions for 2026 Applications 

Please be reminded that current Year 12 students can apply for 2026 Applications from Tuesday 5 August. Any QTAC application submitted prior to Tuesday 5 August will be void and no information inputted will carry into the new admissions year.

Applying for Courses Interstate

If you are thinking about applying to a university outside Queensland, you need to apply to the relevant Tertiary Admissions Centre (TAC). Find course information on the TAC websites below. You can have multiple applications running at the same time through different TACs, but you need to be sure that you understand and follow the application process as it can vary from TAC to TAC. In the case of high demand courses such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry, students often apply nationally. The different Tertiary Admissions Centres are: 

  • UAC        New South Wales and ACT
  • VTAC      Victoria
  • SATAC    South Australia and Northern Territory
  • TISC        Western Australia
  • UTAS      Tasmania (you apply directly to the University)

Adjustment Schemes

If you’re applying through QTAC to study at QUT, you may be eligible for an adjustment to your selection rank or ATAR through a number of adjustments schemes, making you more competitive for a course offer. You can apply for as many adjustments as you’re eligible for, up to a maximum of 10.00 ATAR or selection ranks across all schemes. QUT's adjustment schemes include:

  • Educational Access Scheme
  • Regional, Rural and Remote Adjustment Scheme
  • Year 12 Subject Scheme
  • First Generation Adjustment Scheme

Project Management Vertical Double Degrees

QUT’s vertical double degrees mean you will graduate with both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in five years. You can fast track your career with critical project management skills to meet the demands of infrastructure projects, including those linked to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. Economics Schools Day

Economics Schools Day is an interactive learning day hosted in partnership with the Queensland Economics Teachers' Association (QETA) and is open to any Year 10, 11 and 12 students. Throughout the event, you have the opportunity to attend lecture-style presentations, network with other students and participate in thought-provoking activities on a myriad of social issues such as sustainability and healthcare. It will be held on 17 July from 10.00am - 1.30pm. Click here for more information.

Engineering, Design and Computing Careers Evening

The University of Queensland invites high school students in Years 9 -12 to join them at the Engineering, Design, and Computing Careers Evening. This event is designed specifically for you to explore the degrees that can lead you to these fulfilling opportunities. It will be held on Thursday 24 July from 5.00pm - 7.00pm. Year 12 Subject Adjustment Scheme

From Semester 1, 2027 you can receive a maximum of 3 adjustments under the Subject Incentive Scheme. You may still be eligible for other schemes including the School Opportunity Scheme and Rural Access Scheme for a combined maximum of 5 adjustments.

Career Exploration

A locksmith ... and what do they really do?

Locksmiths install and maintain locks and related security devices and systems. Day-to-day they may:

  • assemble parts and sub-assemblies of precision instruments and locks
  • dismantle precision instruments, locks, repair and replace defective parts, and reassemble articles using hand and power tools and specially designed machines
  • install security systems, change tumblers in locks, change locks, cut keys and open locks by manipulation
  • estimate costs and prepare quotes for repairs.

Aged and Disabled Carer

Also known as Personal Care Worker or Personal Carer, Aged or Disabled Carers support elderly and disabled people by helping them with daily activities and personal tasks. This can include assisting with eating, showering, dressing and cleaning, providing companionship, emotional support and transportation. Work usually takes place within the client's home or a residential care facility. If you are caring, compassionate and reliable, with the ability to communicate with people of all ages and abilities this may be a career pathway for you. Click here for more information.

Urban and Regional Planner

Urban and regional planners provide advice and develop policies related to urban and regional development. They conduct analysis and planning activities considering the economic, environmental and social impact of land development. They also provide guidance to governments and organisations relating to land use and future development. It is a job suitable for people with an interest in geography, community and government. The ability to think critically, analyse systems and listen actively are important. There is a great shortage of Urban and Regional Planners. Adjustment Factors - They May Help

Griffith University offers a range of adjustment factors on the basis of subjects, Brisbane community engagement, Gold Coast and Logan priority access, Educational Access Scheme, Elite Athlete Support Policy and Incremental adjustments for the Bachelor of Medical Science. 

  • The Year 12 subject adjustment for current Year 12’s, offers up to 6 adjustments (2.00 adjustments per subject/course) for a broad range of Senior subjects and up to 4 adjustments for university studies completed as part of the GUESTS program. 
  • If you live in Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich or Redlands, the Brisbane Community Engagement scheme may entitle you to 2 adjustment factors
  • The Gold Coast and Logan Campus Priority Access Scheme improves access to programs offered at Gold Coast and Logan campuses. Applicants who are new to tertiary study and live within the listed catchment areas are eligible for 2.00 adjustments.
  • The Educational Access Scheme is for School Leavers who have experienced financial and/or educational disadvantage. Max of 8.00 adjustments.
  • Elite Athlete Adjustment recognises the challenges and impacts that sporting commitments can have on the completion of their studies. You can apply for adjustment factors as part of your QTAC application, with up to 6.00 selection ranks able to be applied to your ATAR/selection rank.
  • Incremental Adjustments for the Bachelor of Medical Science

Please Note: 

  • Maximum adjustments that you can receive under all schemes is capped at 8.00.
  • You do not need to apply separately – this is part of the QTAC application.
  • Some exclusions apply – refer to website for further details as each scheme outlines the degrees that are excluded from the program.

Griffith Film School Portfolio Application Webinar

As part of your application, Griffith use a portfolio admission process for potential students, so you can showcase your creativity. A portfolio is a collection of your work. It allows us to get to know you, and is your chance to show us your skill, creativity, personality and potential. Admission to the Bachelor of Animation and the Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production is via portfolio. Limited offers may be made in later rounds via ATAR/rank should places remain.

There are two admission pathways to the Bachelor of Game Design and Production. Applicants may be considered via submission of a portfolio, or via guaranteed ATAR/rank of 70.00 or higher.

Bond University have made the application process as smooth as possible, with no costs, no commitment and no obligation to accept your offer if you receive one. You can apply at any time using their free, secure online portal. Applying is a three-step process:

  1. Explore their study areas and choose the program you would like to apply for.
  2. Read through their application tips and prepare your application, including any relevant documents like transcripts.
  3. Access their online portal and apply direct at a time that suits you.

Vocational Education and Training

In Year 12 and Wanting an Apprenticeship? Start Looking Now!

It is sometimes challenging to work out where to start looking for an actual apprenticeship or traineeship. The Queensland Government's Find an apprenticeship or traineeship website is a good place to start. While it won't find you an employer to hire you, it will give you some ideas for looking about a potential employer including:

  • Specific apprenticeship/traineeship job boards
  • Using job search and government vacancies websites by entering a job title with 'apprentice' or 'trainee' and your chosen industry to narrow down results
  • Talking with training organisations, local TAFEs and Australian Apprenticeship Support Network providers

MEGT, a Group Training Organisation, provide employment and training options for school students and school leavers. They have an online Job Board listing school-based apprentice and trainee opportunities.
