Around the Grounds – Week 5 Sport Wrap-Up

In Round 5 of the AIC Competition, St Laurence’s College faced Padua College. The boys delivered some outstanding performances, particularly in Tennis, where the College won almost all matches. Basketball also saw strong results, with the majority of teams securing victories. The 1st V continued their impressive form with another dominant win, maintaining their excellent start to the season.

In Rugby League, results were mixed across the age groups; however, a special mention goes to the 1st XIII for their outstanding victory over a high-quality Padua side. This result is a well-deserved reward for the hard work and commitment shown by both players and coaches.

This weekend, Lauries will host Iona. With Premierships and Aggregate standings on the line, all fixtures across every sport promise to be highly competitive. Best of luck to all students and staff involved.

Track and Field
The Track and Field season is now underway, with training sessions at UQ already in progress. The College has also competed in two Warm-Up Meets at QSAC, achieving excellent results across multiple events. The energy and enthusiasm from students of all age groups has been outstanding and attendance at these meets has been very strong.

Additionally, 24 students represented the College at the Met East Track and Field Championships last week. Each competitor performed exceptionally well and should be proud of their efforts.

With two more Warm-Up Meets scheduled over the next fortnight, we strongly encourage all boys to get involved, give their best, and push to earn selection in the AIC Track and Field team.

All Schools AFL
Next week, our Junior, Youth, and Senior teams will compete in the State Semi-Finals of the AFL Queensland All Schools Cup—a tremendous achievement for the College. St Laurence’s is the only school to have a team represented in every division of the competition. Matches will be held at the Gold Coast and Greenbank.

Best of luck to all teams as they strive for success.
