Join Robotics at Lauries

Students at SLC can participate in the Robotics Program, held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3.10pm – 4.30 pm. The program is open to Years 5–12, with limited places. Students will be advised at the end of Week 2 regarding their registration, and training will begin in Week 3.

Through hands‑on robot design, building, and programming, students develop coding and engineering skills while working collaboratively. The program also builds problem‑solving, creativity, resilience, and communication in a supportive team environment. Throughout the year, students may also have the opportunity to compete in various robotics competitions, depending on interest and experience:

  • SumoBot Challenge

Students design and build robots to compete in head to head pushing matches inspired by traditional Japanese sumo wrestling.

  • RoboCup Rescue

Students program autonomous robots to navigate obstacle filled courses that simulate real world rescue scenarios, including locating victims and avoiding hazards.

  • FIRST LEGO League (FLL)

A globally recognised STEM program combining robotics, coding, research, and teamwork using LEGO technologies.

  • FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)

A higher-level robotics competition where students design, build, and program larger non-LEGO based robots to compete in alliance-based matches.

Students interested in joining the Robotics Program are encouraged to register their interest as soon as possible using the link below:
