From the Music Department

The Music Department warmly welcomes all students and families to the start of a new school year. We are excited to reconnect with our returning students and to welcome new faces into our musical community. Instrumental, Speech and Drama lessons and ensemble rehearsals will commence in Week 2 of Term 1, and we look forward to a busy and inspiring term of music-making ahead.

Choir rehearsals are now open, and all students are welcome to come along and join—no matter their experience level. We encourage everyone with an interest in music to get involved and be a part of our vibrant and supportive musical program this year.

For information on your ensemble rehearsals/performances please refer to the College App under Music.

Cuskelly Music School

St. Laurence’s hosted the Cuskelly Summer Music School in January. Lecturers from England, Scotland, Hungary, the Netherlands, Malaysia and the United States came together to teach around 300 students from Australia and overseas. Courses were offered in music teaching, jazz, opera, song writing, musicianship and piano.

Pictured are a group of the St. Laurence’s College students who attended the Summer School together with Astrid Jorgensen of Pub Choir fame.

Here is a link to Astrid performing on America’s Got Talent - Astrid worked with Professor Pete Churchill, head of Jazz Musicianship at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
