Around the Grounds – Sports Wrap-Up
The 2026 season kicked off last week with St Laurence’s College taking on Villanova in Round 1. It was fantastic to see so many students representing the College with pride and determination.
AFL
Our Opens teams set the tone for the weekend, with both the Firsts and Seconds recording strong victories. The First XVIII controlled the game with disciplined ball movement and pressure, while the Seconds showcased impressive depth and teamwork.
The momentum continued across the Junior and Primary teams, with several strong performances highlighting the talent and commitment throughout the program. A very positive start to the AFL season.
Volleyball
Lauries volleyballers began the season in outstanding fashion, winning all Aggregate matches against Villanova.
The First VI secured a commanding 3–0 victory. While the second and third sets were closely contested, the boys maintained composure in key moments to close out the match confidently in their first home game of the season.
Cricket
It was a challenging round on the cricket field, with Villanova performing strongly across many grades. Despite this, our teams competed with resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day.
Congratulations to the 10B, 8B and 7B teams on securing Aggregate victories.
Swimming
On Friday night, our swimmers competed in a team event at Iona against Iona College, Loreto College and Lourdes Hill College. The meet provided valuable early-season racing experience, with strong team spirit and several encouraging performances across the squad.
Round 2 – This Weekend
This Saturday, Lauries takes on St Patrick’s College in another exciting round of competition.
Volleyball will headline the round, with all matches played at Shorncliffe as part of their Super Round, and we would like to thank St Pat’s for their generosity in hosting all Volleyball Games.
Representative Sport – 2026
District and Met East trials are already underway for Term 1. Students are reminded to monitor the College app closely for all trial information and key dates.
We look forward to another strong week of Lauries sport.
