About our Annual Mothers Camp – Reflection from a Mum - Tickets Available
Did you know St Laurence’s College acquired Camp Laurence in 1974 with the support of a $4,750 Australian Innovation grant? Since then, Moogerah has become a special place for the boys, and, in 1989, a group of mums realised it had become special for them too, so in March 1990, the first Mothers Camp was held.
More than 30 years on, Mothers Camp is still a much-loved part of Lauries community life. Organised each year by a dedicated group of mums, it’s a chance to step away from the everyday, spend time together and strengthen friendships that grow through school life. Things have got a bit more comfortable over the years — yes, the cabins are now air-conditioned — but the heart of the weekend is the same.
Here’s what that looks like for one mum who keeps coming back.
Why I Keep Coming Back
LL, LCC Special Events
“I first went to camp in 2021. I’d missed my first year with boys at the school, something I still regret. I only knew a few people and had no idea what to expect but from the moment I arrived and found our cabin, meeting mums along the row, friends and friends of friends, it just felt easy. Everyone was lovely - we clicked.
There were chats, walks, games, time to relax — and best of all, shared meals we didn’t have to cook. The committee lines up some activities, but the best part is you can do as much or as little as you like. It’s your time away, so you decide how it looks. I’ve made so many friendships through Mothers Camp. I’m a little sad I’ve only got two camps left, and I’m especially looking forward to this year's.”
