My Untold Story
In his book of student formation called ‘Encounter – A Lost Art’ (2024) – Br Damien Price, a very renowned Christian Brother, underpins the importance of story and how understanding a person’s story can lead to liberation, understanding and compassion. He notes, ‘Story is powerful….it has an innate power to transform….when you share story, you share with the other your personal dynamic, your journey, your experiences, your interactions…it is personal….it is real’ (p.156, 2024). Understanding someone’s story, is an essential part of an Edmund Rice Education.
As such, I thought it was important for our boys to understand my story as part of our ‘Untold Stories’ series. This is where students from Film and TV interview staff and invite them to share aspects of their personal life and history. I thank Ms Rebecca Dorge (Acting Heade of VAPA), Wonseop Kim (FTV & New Media Editor & Technician) and Year 12 student, Joeseph Vasseo, for their work in compiling this video.
I hope you enjoy my untold story:
Yuuingan Yari Welcome BBQ
I thank Mr Heshusius and Ms O’Neill for their work in organising the Yuuingan Yari BBQ and welcome event last Monday night. It was also a wonderful opportunity to welcome a new staff member to the group – Ms Peta Johns – who has hit the ground running. Her excellent work ethic and organisation skills have already made a difference.
Trimester 1 – AIC Sport
I thank our coaches, Directors and sports office for their efforts in completing an outstanding Trimester 1 of sport. By way of aggregate placings:
- AFL – 1st
- Volleyball – 2nd
- Swimming – 5th (Primary 3rd)
- Cricket – 6th
I am looking forward to a competitive Trimester 2 sporting calendar, and thank – in advance – our Soccer, Rugby, Chess and Cross-Country coaches and directors.
The SLC Music Series
I thank our music staff and our wonderful Music Supporters Group for their efforts in organising the Ensembles concerts last week. Our students were superb – well done boys.
Runcorn Precinct Upgrade
The Runcorn Precinct upgrade continues to gather momentum and it gives me great pleasure to share another exciting milestone with our community. Weather permitting, we will formally unveil the upgraded facilities as part of our first Term 2 home game on Saturday 9 May. This occasion will provide a wonderful opportunity to showcase the significant improvements delivered over recent months.
This event marks the completion of Stage 1 of the project. Stage 2 will commence during the June/July holiday period and will include the installation of the iconic white picket fence and commemorative paling plaques around Field 1. There is still time for members of our community to secure a personalised picket plaque, with further information available HERE.
I sincerely thank all those who have supported this important project. Your generosity and engagement continue to strengthen our shared sense of pride and connection to the College.
Laurie’s Autumn Lunch
This weekend, we will host one of our major parent fundraising events of the year—the Laurie’s Autumn Lunch. I extend my sincere thanks to the organising committee, along with our generous event and prize sponsors, whose efforts and support have made this occasion possible. I also thank Helen Turner (Director of Advancement) and her team for their work behind the scenes. Every dollar raised directly benefits our College community. If able, I would ask for support by way of purchasing of raffle tickets and bidding on auctions online HERE.
