From the Music Department
The last week has been an exciting one for the Music Department as we wrap up performances from our Intermediate and Senior Ensembles, along with our Junior Breakfast Concert and Old Boys Concert! We are thrilled with the participation and effort that the boys have put in over the past term.
Here is a snapshot of the wonderful concerts:
Intermediate Concert
Last Wednesday night we kicked off with the Intermediate Ensembles concert. The night was filled with energy, as the boys delivered a confident and engaging performance, showcasing the progress they’ve made throughout the term. With growing musical awareness and teamwork, each group demonstrated their developing skills and enthusiasm on stage.
Performances included Concert Band 2, Big Band 2, String Orchestra 2, Guitar Orchestra 2, Little Brotherhood and Cambiata. We’re proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing their continued growth in the months ahead!
Senior Concert
On Thursday night, our Senior Ensembles took the stage for a performance that truly reflected their dedication, growth and passion. After weeks of rehearsal, the concert was a chance to showcase not only their technical skill, but also the strong sense of unity they’ve built as a group.
The concert highlighted our Senior ensembles, including performances from Guitar Orchestra 1, Concert Band 1, Big Band 1, String Orchestra 1, Fellowship of the String, Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble 1, Brotherhood and Big Brotherhood. We’re incredibly proud of their effort and commitment, and this concert marks an important milestone in their musical journey.
A special thank you to the parents in the Lauries Music Support Group for providing a pre-concert barbecue and drinks. Your time and support are greatly appreciated.
Junior Ensembles Breakfast Concerts
On Tuesday, the ERPAC Foyer came alive with the sounds of our young musicians at the Junior Ensembles Breakfast Concert. Featuring performances from Concert Band 3, Big Band 3, String Orchestra 3, and Treblehood, the event showcased the progress our students have made in their musical journey. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the event such a success. It was wonderful to see such strong support for the students as they continue to grow on their musical journey.
We’re excited to watch our junior ensembles keep developing throughout the year and look forward to their next performance on Thursday 21 May!
Old Boys Concert
The St Laurence’s College Old Boys and Community Choir Concert, held on Monday 23 March at St Ignatius Church, Toowong, was a joyful celebration of music, community and solidarity with those in need. Bringing together College Staff, Old Boys and members of the wider community, the concert marked the culmination of seven weeks of rehearsals and was warmly supported by the St Laurence’s College Old Boys Association.
The audience enjoyed a varied program featuring the Old Boys String Orchestra, Old Boys choir, Lauries Community Choir, and a special highlight being the world premiere of a new work for Guitar Orchestra by Old Boy, Joe Fallon. A collection on the night raised over $1,000 in support of Jesuit Mission in Myanmar, underscoring the strong spirit of community and service that defined the evening.
Overall, the Old Boys and Community Season was a great opportunity for old and new friends to connect, enjoy each other’s company and work together for a good cause. Thank you to staff member and Old Boy, Anthony Samios, and the Old Boys Committee for providing refreshments at the concert.
Cambiata Concert
Next Monday evening, on the 30th of March, the Cambiata Choral Group have been invited to perform by the Voices of Birralee, as part of the lead up to the Pemulwuy Voice Festival in July. The concert will be hosted at Mansfield State High School, starting at 6:30 p.m. We are looking forward to a great performance from the group!
ANZAC Day Ceremony
Our annual ANZAC Day Ceremony will be held on Friday the 24th of April. Concert Band 1 and the College Choir will provide music, which we are looking forward to.
