Term 1 Sport Wrap-Up: A Strong Start to 2026

Term 1 sport has come to a close and what a fantastic season it has been across all sports.

AFL once again set the benchmark, with our First XVIII securing another Premiership and St Laurence’s College claiming the AIC Aggregate Cup for the ninth consecutive year. Multiple teams, including the Second XVIII, 9A and 9B, also celebrated Premiership success. A huge thank you to Director of AFL, Mr Josh Ferguson, for his outstanding leadership.

Cricket delivered some excellent performances, with the College building strong momentum as the season progressed after a challenging start. This growth was reflected in Premiership wins for the 4th XI Gold and 8C teams. Congratulations to all players and a special thank you to Director of Cricket, Mr Sam Wiltshire, and First XI Coach, Mr Cameron Wigan.

Volleyball enjoyed a standout season, finishing 2nd overall in the aggregate and only narrowly missing the top spot. The College secured eight Premierships across multiple divisions, including Third VI, 10C, 11A, 8A, 8B, 8C, 7A and 7B. Several other teams also achieved top-three finishes, reinforcing the strength of Lauries Volleyball. Thank you to Mr Anthony Bird and all coaches for their dedication and commitment.

Swimming made significant progress, with the Senior team finishing 5th overall and the Primary team achieving an excellent 3rd place at the AIC Swimming Championships. A big thank you to Swimming Director, Ms Meg Jacobs, for her leadership in her first year, and to Yeronga Pool for their ongoing support.

Looking Ahead to Term 2 Sport

Training and trials for Term 2 sports are now underway. Internal trials will take place this weekend at Runcorn, while our A teams and First XV Rugby squads travel to Padua College. If you haven’t signed up yet, there is still time—please contact the Sports Office to get involved.
