From the Music Department
Welcome back to Term 2 which is shaping up to be a busy period for the Laurie’s Music Program, with concerts, workshops, and recitals taking place across the next nine weeks. The performance season begins in Week 3 with the Combined Guitar Workshop, followed by the Junior Ensembles Concert in Week 5 and the much-anticipated Cabaret Concert in Week 6.
The highlight event of the semester is the Cabaret Concert, themed “Aussie Aussie Aussie”. Senior ensembles will take the stage, joined by special guests the Little Brotherhood. The Music Department is also working closely with the Media Department and AV Production Crew to provide an elevated production experience. Entry to all concerts is via donation, and the whole community is warmly invited to attend and support our musicians.
Workshops this term will include the Combined Schools Guitar Workshop in Week 3 on Tuesday the 5th of May at Somerville House. Guitar Orchestra 1 will combine with their peers from Somerville House and St Rita’s College for their workshop & concert that evening. This is a wonderful performance opportunity for our students to further their music experiences and collaborate with other young guitarists from Somerville House and St Rita’s College.
In Week 8, String Orchestra 3 and Treblehood will participate in the Combined Schools Music Workshop at ERPAC on Wednesday 10 June, as we join forces with St Joseph’s Primary School for an afternoon of music workshops and concert.
As preparations begin for LIZID in Term 3, a dedicated workshop will be offered for middle school students interested in taking part. This session will introduce the fundamentals of rock band set-up and performance skills. LIZID Festival planning is already underway, with the first meeting held this week. Students keen to perform or contribute to the audio, lighting, or promotional teams are encouraged to attend the next meeting in Week 4.
Throughout the semester, students learning Voice, Piano, Strings, and Brass will also have opportunities to perform for family and friends at dedicated recitals. In addition, students enrolled in the co-curricular Speech and Drama program will present their showcase in Week 8, with all community members welcome to attend.
