From the Library

Biographies matter because they let us step inside another person’s world. They show the choices, pressures and turning points that shape a life and they remind us that wisdom is usually earned the hard way. Reading them sharpens empathy, broadens perspective and gives us practical insight we can carry into our own decisions.

Here are some of the best loved biographies from the Lauries collection.

The most popular biography is 'The happiest man on Earth' which follows then trials and tribulations of Eddie Jaku. Eddie Jaku’s story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit. Surviving the darkest chapter of history, he chose to live each day with gratitude, kindness and an unshakeable belief in the goodness of people. This biography honours his remarkable journey from suffering to hope, showing how Eddie transformed unimaginable hardship into a lifelong commitment to joy. His message is simple and powerful: happiness is a choice we make, even in the face of great adversity.

Another example of a biography recommended by our own Steve Mullins is 'Frosty: The Life of a Legend' as it follows the rise of an Australian favourite whose warmth, grit and unmistakable charm turned a simple nickname into a national icon. This biography offers an intimate look at the moments that shaped him, the setbacks that strengthened him and the legacy that continues to delight generations.

Last but not least, Lionel Messi's biography. Lionel Messi’s biography reads like the final chapter in the great GOAT debate. It follows the small kid from Rosario who grew up to twist defenders into knots, bend the laws of physics and, just to silence every armchair pundit on earth, drag Argentina to a World Cup final and actually win it. While some players insist they are the GOAT, Messi simply lifted the trophy and let the world draw its own conclusions. This book captures the brilliance, the humour and the quiet confidence of the man who settled football’s biggest argument with his feet.
