AusAlert | New National Emergency Alert System
We are writing to let you know about AusAlert, a new national public information and emergency warnings system being introduced by the Australian Government.
AusAlert is designed to send important safety messages directly to mobile devices (such as phones, tablets and smart watches) during emergencies. It will be used by emergency services to warn the community about serious situations such as severe weather or other threats to safety.
AusAlert includes two types of messages:
- Critical Alerts, which are only used in situations involving an immediate threat to life and cannot be turned off.
- Priority Alerts, which provide advice about potential risks and can be turned off in device settings.
Before AusAlert is officially launched later in 2026, public tests will take place during June and July. During these tests, you may hear a siren‑style alert tone and see a message appear on your device.
These messages will be tests only, and no action will be required.
Further information will be shared closer to the testing dates, including how schools will support students to understand these alerts.
