Strong Finish to Term 2 Sport at Lauries

St Laurence’s College has concluded an outstanding Term 2 sporting season, celebrating impressive achievements across Chess, Rugby Union and Football.

Term 2 Sport Highlights

Chess

The Chess program continued its remarkable growth this year, finishing as Aggregate Champions for the first time in many years—an exceptional accomplishment. Congratulations to Mr Larkin and all chess staff and students for their dedication and hard work. The First VI also delivered a strong performance, placing 3rd overall.

Rugby Union

Rugby Union enjoyed a solid season, finishing 5th in the aggregate. The First XV showcased high-quality Rugby throughout the term, finishing equal 3rd.

Football

Football once again led the way, securing 1st place in the aggregate—the College’s fourth consecutive Football Aggregate Championship.  Congratulations to Mr Zannes, along with all coaches and staff, for their continued success. The First XI delivered exceptional Football throughout the season, finishing the year undefeated. Despite not losing a match, they ultimately placed 2nd overall. Their consistency, resilience and quality of play were outstanding.

Holiday and other Sport Activities

The upcoming holiday break will be a busy and exciting period for many Lauries athletes:

  • Confraternity Rugby League: The team will remain in Brisbane this year for the annual carnival hosted by Marist College Ashgrove. We wish them all the best for what promises to be a fantastic week of Rugby League.
  • Futsal: Two College teams competed in the Queensland Schools Futsal Tournament this week, with both progressing to the State Finals later this year.
  • Holiday Clinics and Camps: In the final week of the holidays, the College will host several major sporting events, including:
    • Manchester City Football Camp
    • SLC Basketball Clinic
    • SLC Tennis Clinic
  • All-Age SLC College Tennis Championships: The holidays will conclude with the annual championships held at Griffith University.

Best of luck to all students participating in holiday sporting activities. We hope everyone enjoys a safe, active and refreshing break.
