Sports Wrap Up – Term 3 Recap

In the final round of Term 3 AIC fixtures, St Laurence’s College took on St Peter’s Lutheran College and Ambrose Treacy College, bringing another exciting and successful season of sport to a close.

Rugby League

Our Rugby League teams finished the season strongly, with almost every side recording victories in the final round. A special mention must go to Will Bradley, who delivered a remarkable performance for the First XIII, scoring an incredible seven tries as the team capped off their season in style with a commanding 36–4 victory.

Tennis

Our Tennis teams faced the challenge of taking on AIC powerhouse, St Peter’s Lutheran College, in the final round of the season. While the overall result did not fall our way, the boys displayed outstanding determination, sportsmanship and resilience throughout the day. The continued growth and development shown across all age groups was extremely pleasing, and the teams should be proud of the way they competed and represented the College throughout the season.

Basketball

It was a historic day for Lauries Basketball. Our First V secured the College's first AIC Basketball Premiership since 2011 with a dominant victory, capping off an outstanding season.

The celebrations did not stop there. Every Lauries Basketball team recorded a win on the day, resulting in St Laurence’s College also claiming the AIC Basketball Aggregate Shield, another achievement not accomplished since 2011. This is a significant milestone for the Basketball program and a testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment of our students, coaches and support staff throughout the season.

While the AIC season has concluded, the journey continues for our First V, who are competing at the CBSQ Basketball Championships on the Gold Coast this weekend. We wish the team and coaching staff every success as they represent the College on the state stage.

Track and Field Update – Holiday Training and Team Selections

Thank you to all students who have participated in the first four AIC Warm-Up Meets. It has been fantastic to see such strong attendance and enthusiasm, with Lauries athletes continuing to perform strongly across all events.

Over the upcoming holiday period, Track and Field training will continue as follows:

  • Week 1: Tuesday and Thursday afternoon training.
  • Week 2: Tuesday afternoon training, followed by the final Warm-Up Meet on Thursday morning.

We strongly encourage all athletes to attend these sessions as we prepare for team selections and the upcoming AIC Championships.

We look forward to seeing as many athletes as possible at training. If you have any questions, please contact the Sports Office.

Futsal – State Champions!

Now in its fourth year at St Laurence’s College, the Futsal program continues to reach new heights. What began as an emerging opportunity for students has quickly developed into one of the College’s most successful sporting programs, with participation, performance and achievements continuing to grow each year.

This year, Lauries once again competed at the Football Queensland Futsal State Championships and produced outstanding results, claiming both the U13 and U15 State Championship titles. A sincere thank you to Mr Jamie Davies and Mr Matthew Zannes for their dedication, expertise and commitment in coaching these teams. Their efforts have played a significant role in the continued success of the program. By winning their respective State Championships, both teams have now qualified for the National Titles to be held in November.

This is a tremendous achievement that reflects the talent, dedication and teamwork of our players, as well as the tireless efforts of the coaching staff. We congratulate all involved and look forward to following their progress at the national level.

Other Holiday Activities

This weekend, our Water Polo teams will compete in the All Schools Tournament at Chandler. We wish all players and staff the very best as they represent the College.

We also have the Henschell Cricket Camp taking place on Gair Field during the holidays. We encourage all aspiring young cricketers to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to develop their skills and further their involvement in the game. Detailed information can be found on the College App.

Thank You

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to sport throughout Term 3. It has been another busy and rewarding term and the success of Lauries Sport would not be possible without the commitment and support of our students, staff, coaches, volunteers and parents.

Whether competing, coaching, officiating, managing teams or supporting from the sidelines, your contributions have helped create a fantastic sporting environment for our boys.

We wish all families a safe and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting Term 4.
