Emmaus

As we finish out another wonderful term where out Touchstones lived through our thoughts and actions, I write on the final day of Year 12 ‘Emmaus’ Retreat. Here, our Seniors have unpacked the story of the Road to Emmaus, recognising the Christ in their relationships. Rather than write a piece, I would like to share a poem written by Mr Steven Chamberlain, written across the entirety of the experience.

Retreat

Buses arrived and the fun began,

Some of the sessions went to plan.

Keys were given and told not to lose,

Someone locked the door but had no key to use.

Free time was spent just cruising about,

Then in no time dinner time was the shout.

We started on our Emmaus Way,

With life journeys and reflections to say.

As the journey continued on today,

We walked a spiritual journey on the way.

We were present with each other’s ways,

To the lookout where we embraced the day.

Time to do the drawings on a plate,

That ultimately would have a crashing fate.

With some patience, time and super glue,

The pieces would be together in a form so true.

What a place to sit, around the fire,

Time to reflect on the words from loved ones.

As the log burnt away in smoke and flame,

The serenity of the fire allowed emotion to tame.

As the sun rises on the last day,

We reflect on the Emmaus Journey way,

We write our replies to those who wrote to us,

And we finish our journey as we hop on the bus.

Live Jesus in our Hearts. . . Forever!
