From the Library

St Laurence's College was delighted to welcome more than 100 students from across the Brisbane South region to St Laurence’s College on 15 July to compete in the 2026 CBCA Queensland Readers Cup for Years 9 and 10. Held in ERPAC, the event brought together 23 teams vying for a coveted place in the State Final and was a wonderful celebration of reading, literature and academic teamwork.

Students tackled a series of challenging questions based on this year’s Readers Cup texts, demonstrating remarkable recall, insight and enthusiasm for reading. It was inspiring to see so many young people united by a shared love of books and willingness to challenge themselves beyond the classroom.

A special highlight of the evening was welcoming author Nick Croydon, author of The Turing Protocol and the soon-to-be-released Nautilus, as Quiz Master for the competition. We were also delighted to host a pop-up bookstall from QBD Carindale, which proved popular with students and staff alike. Special thanks go to Nate Ryder for his outstanding work as Master of Ceremonies and to the College’s wonderful Events and Maintenance teams whose support behind the scenes ensured the evening ran smoothly.

Congratulations to all competitors, and thank you to the staff, judges, volunteers and supporters who helped make the event such a memorable success and a fitting celebration of the joy of reading.
