Book Month Begins: A Symphony of Stories

At St Laurence’s College, one week simply isn't enough to celebrate books. Throughout August, our Library will mark Book Month with a packed program of events inspired by this year's CBCA Book Week theme: Symphony of Stories.

The celebrations begin with a visit from acclaimed Australian author Tristan Bancks and conclude with a very special interschool author event on 27 August, featuring Annaleise Byrd and Carla Salmon. This exclusive event will bring together our Book Club members and students from neighbouring colleges, creating an opportunity for young readers to connect through a shared love of books and storytelling.

Over the month of August, students will get opportunities to participate in trivia challenges, scavenger hunts, classroom-based activities, lunchtime events and Friday dance parties during Weeks 4, 6 and 7. To help students make the most of Book Month, students are able to collect their special Book Month reading booklet from the library. The booklet encourages students to track their reading, complete challenges and explore new stories throughout August, with participants eligible to win some fantastic prizes along the way.

The Library itself is undergoing a Book Week transformation, with engaging displays and reading promotions appearing throughout the month. Special thanks to Ms Hope Loveday for her outstanding work creating the beautiful Lauries Symphony of Stories display and Bookify installation, helping to make the Library a vibrant celebration of reading.

Whether students are lifelong readers or simply looking for their next great book, August offers something for everyone as we celebrate the power of stories to connect, inspire and entertain. We look forward to seeing our students immerse themselves in a month of reading, discovery and literary adventure.

Here at Lauries, every reader brings their own note and helps create our symphony of stories.
