From the Music Department
We hope all families enjoyed the holiday break and are ready for one of our busiest Terms for the year. Term 3 marks the final weeks of the 2026 Music Year. Rehearsals are well underway to prepare for some exciting performances coming up this Term.
State Honours Ensembles Program – Southeast Queensland
We’re proud to share that several of our talented students participated in the recent State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) – South-East Queensland, hosted by the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University.
SHEP is a prestigious program that brings together exceptional young musicians from across the region to rehearse and perform under the guidance of leading conductors and educators. Students are selected based on their musical skill and teacher recommendation.
The program is an intensive weekend in Brisbane and includes intensive rehearsals, culminating in a public concert held at the Queensland Conservatorium. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to extend their musicianship, collaborate with like-minded peers, and represent their school at a high level.
Congratulations to the following students: Christian D, Tristan D, Kalel H, Patrick H, Eamon H, Zachariah J, Declan M, Jake M, James P, Arlo S, Fraser S, Tobia T, Gregory V, Arthur W, Felix W, Harrison W, Jarvis Y.
AUSTA Q Strings Festival
Well done to our students who participated at the AUSTA Q Strings Festival held on Sunday 26 July.
The annual festival is organised by the Australian Strings Association and is an opportunity for young musicians to perform a solo piece and receive feedback from professional string musicians and educators. Approximately 400 students from schools across South East Queensland performed at the event.
The following students represent the College and performed a solo at the festival: Angus L, Ted S, Kalel H, Jonah A, David C, Charlie X, Ragnar L, Maru J.
Thanks and appreciation also goes to the Lauries staff involved: Amanda Tio, Ben Adkins & Shannon Luk.
