Walkathon 2026

Walkathon is now just one week away and will take place on Friday 7 August.

Since its beginnings in 1969, Walkathon has become one of the most significant events on the St Laurence's College calendar, raising more than $1 million for charitable causes while fostering community spirit, service and solidarity among our students.

This year, our Walkathon theme, The Road We Share, reminds us that every step we take can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Funds raised will support our major charities, including Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland, the MND and Me Foundation, as well as our Faith in Action and House charities.

There is still time for your son/s to support this important initiative. Parents were shared the URL's for their son/s today plus students were emailed their codes on Friday 17 July. Primary students also have the option of collecting cash, which must be returned to the College on Friday 7 August.

Online donations received by Wednesday 19 August will be included in your son’s fundraising total, with every $50 raised earning one entry into the draw for a range of fantastic prizes.

The 2026 Walkathon route will cover approximately 14 kilometres through the Brisbane CBD before returning to the College and can be viewed HERE.

TIMINGS AND LOGISTICS
Students are required to be at school by 8.25am and will proceed directly to ERPAC for our Solidarity Mass. Following Mass and morning tea, Walkathon participants will begin departing from approximately 10.30am. Students will walk with their House groups (with Primary students leading the day).

Based on previous years, the first students are expected to return to the College at approximately 1pm. All participants will be tracked via an electronic bib and monitored throughout the course. College staff will be stationed at key points along the route and walking with students to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

A final roll call will be held in House areas at 2.15pm, with student dismissal at 2.30pm. All students are required to remain at the College until dismissal time, regardless of when they complete the walk. Supervised activities, a sausage sizzle, games and music will be available in the quadrangle throughout the afternoon. Students who have not completed the course by 2.15pm will return to the College via buses operating throughout the day.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS AND CONDUCT
Students should come prepared for a full day outdoors. All participants are required to wear their House shirt, SLC shorts, SLC sports jacket and College sports cap. Non-SLC clothing, including hoodies and jackets, are not permitted. Students should also bring a water bottle and remain well hydrated throughout the day.

As Walkathon takes place within the wider community, students are expected to represent St Laurence's College with pride and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values and standards of the College.

Throughout the event, students must follow all instructions provided by College staff and event supervisors, remain on the designated route, keep to the left when walking and be mindful of other pedestrians and members of the public. The use of mobile phones, music devices, AirPods, headphones, earbuds or similar listening devices is not permitted during the walk.

Students are expected to engage positively with their House groups, support one another and demonstrate courtesy and respect to all members of the community. Failure to meet these expectations may result in a student being withdrawn from the event and managed in accordance with College behaviour expectations.

ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION
Parents are warmly welcome to support students from any of the designated checkpoints shown on the route map. While volunteer assistance is not required, your encouragement along the course is appreciated. Please note that parents will need to arrange their own transport to and from checkpoint locations.

As an important part of our formation program, Walkathon provides students with the opportunity to live out the College values of service, solidarity and community. Attendance and participation are expected, and we encourage all students to embrace this unique aspect of the Lauries experience.

Should you have any questions regarding the day, please contact your son’s Head of Year or Head of House.
