Theory of Music Lessons

Did you know the SLC Music Department offers group classes for the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) Theory of Music syllabus?

Students have the opportunity to study in a class on Monday afternoons after school from 3pm – 4pm. All levels from Grades 1 to 5 are offered; Grade 4 is the maximum required for Grade 8 Practical exams. Students study their relevant level with a tutor and then can sit the formal AMEB theory of music exam and obtain their certificate.

By participating in Music theory, it bridges the gap between classroom learning, ensemble work, and instrumental lessons. Lessons will provide a shared language of music, enabling students to understand how music works and apply that knowledge to their own practice and performance. Beyond this, studying theory fosters critical thinking and offers valuable intellectual stimulation, helping students develop more advanced analytical skills.

The lessons are only $70 per term. The minimum group size is 6 students for the class to run.

If you would like to sign up for lessons, please find the Music Theory Enrolment form here.

You may either drop the signed contract at reception in the Music Department or send the document via email to: music@slc.qld.edu.au
