Library News - 17 July

Lauries Literature Legends proudly represented the College at this year’s Readers Cup events, with our primary students demonstrating both their enthusiasm for reading and their impressive literary knowledge. On the 10th of June, four Year 5 boys travelled to Somerville College.  Hamish M, Riaan N, Ayansh S and Leonardo G competed against thirty two other schools.  I was very proud of the way the boys conducted themselves and showed how they are truly Lauries Gentlemen.

Our year 6 students were so enthusiastic we had enough to field two teams on the 18th of June at Moorooka State School.  Jonathon M, Jack D, Ollie J, Ollie R, Leo S, Theo R, Aiden C and Joseph H were also fortunate to have author Annaleise Byrd as the MC for their event.  They also were lucky enough to get the opportunity to take a photo with her on the day, adding to an already memorable experience.

In the lead-up to the competition, these dedicated students attended meetings diligently, with the occasional food incentive helping along the way, and consistently showed great enthusiasm as they read a diverse range of novels in preparation. On the day, they embraced the opportunity to challenge themselves, engage in spirited competition, and connect with like-minded readers from other schools.

Beyond the competition, the events provided a valuable space for students to share their love of literature and celebrate reading as a community. We commend all participants for their commitment, teamwork and positive spirit, and look forward to their continued involvement in Lauries Literature Legends.
