Lauries Primary Curriculum Update - Jon Tracey
Book Week at Laurie’s Primary
In Week 5 of Term 3, we will be celebrating Book Week across our Primary School.
Book Week is an annual initiative of the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to fostering a love of reading and engaging young people with literature. Schools, libraries, and booksellers across the country take part in this special week, and we are excited to join the celebrations once again.
Further details will be shared closer to the date, but please note the following key events:
Character Parade
Monday, 11 August (Day 1, Week 5) – Period 1
Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character. This year’s theme, "Book an Adventure," encourages boys to get creative and imaginative with their costumes. There is no expectation for families to spend money on elaborate outfits — some of the most memorable costumes are created from items found at home or recycled materials. This can be a fun project to enjoy together! Over the years, we have loved seeing the enthusiasm and creativity from both students and staff.
Author Visit
Tuesday, 12 August (Day 2, Week 5)
We are delighted to welcome author Brian Falkner, who will share his writing journey and inspire our Primary students with stories about his books. To learn more about Brian and his work, please visit his website: Brian Falkner – Author.
Real Men Read Evening
Wednesday, 27 August, 5.00 – 7.00 pm
This much-loved evening invites boys and their dads (or another special male role model) to share in the joy of reading together at school. The event includes games, prizes, and a sausage sizzle.
We will begin with a BBQ at 5.00 pm outside the chapel, with formal proceedings starting at 5.30 pm inside. At approximately 6.00 pm, we will move to the library for activities.
This event has become a highlight for the year, and we look forward to another wonderful evening of fun and connection.
Throughout Book Week, students will also enjoy special activities during their Library sessions. They will receive a reading passport when borrowing books, with opportunities to win prizes organised by Mrs Templeton in the Library.
Please keep an eye out for further details and RSVP information, especially regarding the Real Men Read Evening.
We look forward to sharing in the joy of books and celebrating a love of reading with our community this term!
