Lauries Primary Curriculum Update - Jon Tracey

On Thursday, 31 July, St Laurence’s College proudly hosted the inaugural Laurie’s Impact Academy—a dynamic day of innovation, entrepreneurship and collaborative problem-solving designed for high-potential primary students. The day was in partnership with “Future Anything” and was organised by Ms Naomi Lightbody (Assistant Head of Faculty – High Potential Learners) and Ms Grace Loyden (Dean of Learning and Teaching).

Congratulations to the students who participated! Our boys collaborated with peers from Laurie’s and other primary schools, demonstrating outstanding teamwork, critical thinking and creativity. They represented our school exceptionally well, with staff and facilitators from across the event commending their polished pitch presentations, respectful behaviour and excellent manners.

Please find below some photos of the day which includes the winning team who presented their innovative design.

Book Week Recap- Week 5

It was a joy to see our Primary students embrace the spirit of the 2025 SLC Book Week celebrations! The book character dress-up parade brought the campus to life with colour and creativity, and the staff joined in the fun by dressing as characters from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

On the Tuesday, the boys also had the opportunity to attend an engaging author talk with Brian Falkner, whose stories and insights inspired many budding young writers.

Thank you to our wonderful Primary staff and families for your enthusiasm and support throughout the week. Please enjoy the photos below from our Book Week Parade.

The winner of best dressed and of our book week competitions will be announced at Primary Assembly in Week 7.

Please see below some images of the parade and author visit.

Year 5 Excursion to Runcorn

In Week 4, our Year 5 students brought their Science and HASS studies to life during an engaging excursion to Runcorn Playing Fields.

After an inspiring history talk from Ms Nat Kilburn, Head of Humanities, the boys explored a range of real-world concepts, including:
Investigating weathering, erosion, and deposition
Identifying how humans have modified landscapes
Exploring revegetation, native plants, and invasive species

This hands-on experience strengthened inquiry skills, built real-world connections and deepened student understanding of how natural processes and human actions shape our environment.

A massive thank you goes to Ms Nat Kilburn and our Year 5 teachers for making this an amazing and informative learning opportunity. Their guidance helped the boys see clear links between their classroom learning, the curriculum and the world around them.

Please see some photos of this day.

On Tuesday 19th August, a group of enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 students proudly represented our school at the Marist College Ashgrove Bright Sparks Competition.

The competition brought together primary students from across the region to take part in five exciting rounds: Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry, Statistics & Probability, Logic, and a hands-on STEM Challenge. Each round encouraged collaboration, problem-solving and creativity, giving students the chance to put their mathematical and critical thinking skills into action.

The Bright Sparks experience is designed to:
✔️ Build analytical and creative skills
✔️ Foster teamwork while tackling complex challenges
✔️ Encourage students to explore new talents and interests

Our students embraced each challenge with enthusiasm, demonstrating persistence, teamwork and a love of learning. We are very proud of the way they represented our school so positively and commend them on their efforts.
