Dean of Primary- 31 October
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The final term for 2025 is well and truly in full swing. Classrooms are very busy, with the final curriculum units for the year entering an important phase. We also have some key community events coming up towards the end of the term.
Year 6 Leadership Day
Last Monday (20 October), our Year 6 Student Leaders participated in a workshop with students from Padua, Iona, St Anthony’s, Loreto, All Hallows and Lourdes Hill. The theme for the day was “Transitioning to be Positive Middle School Role Models.” We encouraged the boys and other students to build the leadership skills they have developed this year. The day was a huge success and it was a fantastic opportunity for the boys to work with students from other schools. Thank you to Mr O’Toole for coordinating the event and congratulations to the boys for their outstanding engagement.
House Farewells and Year 12 Graduation
Two significant events that occurred last Friday were the “House Farewell Assemblies” and the “Year 12 Graduation.” The Senior boys have provided great support for the Primary boys this year and it was terrific to give them a special farewell at both of these events.
Another College event that took place last Thursday, was the Secondary Awards Night. Each year staff from across the College, both teaching and support staff are recognised for outstanding work in their respective field.
At this year’s event, Mr Lowrie announced Mrs Kath Perotin as one of the recipients for 2025. Kath does amazing work in Primary, particularly delivering excellent lessons to support writing in all classes and teaching classes for the two Heads of Year. It was terrific to see a staff member from the primary team awarded this year. Well done Kath!
Primary Awards Celebration, Year 6 Graduation, Year 5 Reflection Day and Activities Day
In the coming weeks, we will be preparing for some major celebrations of our own. The Primary Awards Celebration will be held on Monday, 17 November in ERPAC. All prize winners have been notified and are also published in this newsletter below. We hope all families are able to come along to celebrate 2025.
During the last week of this term, Thursday 27 November, the Year 6 Retreat and Graduation will also take place. This occasion is a significant milestone for the boys and their families. The night will be held in ERPAC, starting at 6:00pm. We welcome all Year 6 parents and siblings to join the boys in ERPAC.
The Year 5 group will have a reflection day and assembly to celebrate the end of the first year on the Lauries Journey. This will also form part of the process of them taking over the Primary School Student Leadership for 2026. This event will be for students only and occurs during the day on Friday, 21 November.
Parents are asked to keep an eye out on the College APP, Email and Parent Lounge for details that relate to these events.
Haircuts and Uniform
Could I please ask parents to be aware of both haircuts and school uniforms as we get closer to the holidays. Most boys arrive at school neat and tidy each day and looking great. In a few cases, some boys need to get their hair cut and some uniforms need minor repairs, such as polish on shoes and buttons replaced on shirts. If you could please assist your son with these two important issues, I would really appreciate it. We aim to finish the year strongly in every area, especially important areas like attendance and appearance.
Stationery Requirements for 2026
Stationery lists for 2026, can now be viewed via the College website. For Year 6 (2026) boys might be able to reuse some items from this year. Pens, pencils, glue, calculator etc do not need to be replaced if they are still in good working order.
Primary Classes for 2026
Classes for 2026 will be released towards the end of term. Boys will know their classes for next year before the holidays to allow parents to label gear etc prior to 2026.
Enrolments for 2026
Prior to the September holidays, we requested families inform us if boys would not be returning to Lauries in 2026. We are continuously fielding requests from families on the waitlist to join Lauries next year. If your circumstances have changed and you know your son will not be returning to Lauries in Year 6 2026 or progressing to Year7 2026, please email cwigan@slc.qld.edu.au so that we can continue to add new families if spots become available.
End of Year Activities Day
The end of year “Activities Day” for Years 5 and 6 will be held on Friday, 28 November (final day for boys), to celebrate another great year of Lauries spirit. More details will be sent home in coming weeks.
On the final day of term, we will also run a final raffle draw for 2025. Any donated prizes would be very welcome. Please feel free to send in prizes anytime to the Primary Office.
In this Edition of the Primary Newsletter you can also read about, Primary Studies, Music, Events, Date Claimers and Lauries Journey Awards.
Many thanks for all your time and support of the staff and boys here at Lauries.
Regards
