Exciting Unit Launches in Primary for Religion and HASS
Both Year 5 and Year 6 students recently embarked on engaging Focused Learning Cycle (FLC) launches. These captivating unit launches are essential, as they capture students' attention and deepen their connection to the learning process. When students are enthusiastic about their studies, they are more likely to participate actively and remain motivated. Engaging launches can ignite curiosity, prompting students to ask questions, explore topics further, and develop a richer understanding of the subject matter.
In Year 5 this term, the Religion FLC explores the Lourdes first apparition and the significance of Mary, Mother of Jesus, in the lives of believers. To kick off the unit, students engaged in a fun investigation to locate Larry Laurence—a former student who went missing during a trip to Europe. His concerned family hadn't heard from him in weeks, and his grandchildren recalled that he had complained of aches before leaving. Larry's daughter noted his deep Catholic faith and frequent pilgrimages, making his absence particularly worrisome.
In Year 6 this term, the HASS FLC is focusing on the influences on consumers and strategies for making informed consumer and financial choices. To launch this unit, we welcomed Mrs. Sharelle Bainbridge, Laurie’s Shop Manager, who shared insights about her role. She discussed the factors influencing her product selection, the advertising strategies she employs, and how she determines pricing.
Both unit launches have proven to be enriching learning experiences for our students, fostering engagement and curiosity!
