St Laurence's College QUT Fellowship Program 2024
St Laurence’s College and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) continued with the Fellowship program for a third year, delivering a program to develop trainee teachers.
This mutually beneficial program provided QUT students, Kylie Vecchio and Samuel Pedersen, with an opportunity to receive extended professional experience while being sponsored by the College.
Both Kylie and Samuel have completed full teaching, learning and assessment cycles while being engrained into the cultural and Co-Curricular life of the College.
Ms Mallihai Tambyah, Academic Lead (Professional Experience) and Senior Lecturer at QUT commented:
"Both spoke so highly of their teaching experience since the start of the term and expressed how their confidence has grown.
I think the overall immersion in the culture of the school, as well as the targeted support and mentoring they have received, has been really invaluable.
I really appreciate how the QUT – SLC Fellowship program has matured over the last three years.
Thank you for your vision and support of the partnership with QUT in preservice teacher education."
College Principal, Mr Ben Lowrie echoed a similar sentiment:
“Over the last three years, the College has been able to have a significant positive influence on the professional development of a number of teachers.
“Partnering with QUT to allow pre-service teachers a chance to further develop and enhance their craft has been extremely rewarding and is a way to give back to the profession.
“We look forward to continuing this partnership into the future.”
We thank Ms Kirsten Wardrop (Dean of Teaching and Learning - Acting), Ms Bec Dwyer (Acting Head of House - Sion) and Mr Scott Walter (Head of Faculty - Science) for their mentorship of both Kylie and Samuel.
We look forward to continuing the St Laurence’s College Fellowship program with QUT in 2025 and we wish Kylie and Sam all the best for the future.
