Can you tell us about your Lauries Journey?
I joined the College’s English Department in 2018, specialising in implementing the subject English for EAL Learners at the College. Since then, I have held various leadership roles and have worked alongside passionate educators to support students from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds, championing inclusive practices across the College. Being part of the Lauries community has been deeply fulfilling, both professionally and personally.
Can you tell us about your career to date?
With over 18 years of teaching and leadership experience in Australia and the United Kingdom, my career has centred on English, literacy, EAL/D and inclusive education. Holding a Master of Education in Applied Linguistics, I was nationally recognised in 2025 with the Peter Botsman Award for Excellence in English Teaching. At St Laurence’s College, I lead initiatives that strengthen English and EAL learning, while my roles with QCAA—as Chief Confirmer, Lead Marker, Subject Matter Expert and Text Advisory Panel member—allow me to shape curriculum, assessment and text selection to better support linguistically diverse learners. Beyond the classroom, I have co-led QCAA professional development, partnered with educational institutions and presented at NEAS, ETAQ and ACTA conferences, sharing insights on curriculum design and assessment reform. My commitment also extends to mentoring pre-service and early career teachers, ensuring that inclusive, high-quality pedagogy continues to flourish across Queensland.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most is working alongside young people from diverse backgrounds and seeing them grow in confidence and capability, particularly students learning English as an additional language. I also love collaborating with staff - being part of a team that values innovation, compassion and excellence makes every day at Lauries a joy.
What would be your best advice to give to students?
Never underestimate the power of your own story. Whether you're navigating challenges or celebrating success, your voice matters. Embrace learning as a lifelong journey, ask questions and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, every experience helps you grow. And above all, be kind, to yourself and to others.
Can you tell us a little bit about your role?
As Assistant Head of Faculty – Diverse Learning EAL/D my role focuses on ensuring all students, particularly those from language-diverse backgrounds, have access to equitable, high-quality learning opportunities. In my time at Lauries, I have led the redevelopment of Years 10–12 English and EAL units, introduced staff-wide planning systems, built robust support structures for international and EAL students and led PLTs for early-career teachers.
