From the Dean of Teaching and Learning
Term 2 is becoming increasingly hectic, with excursions, sports, and other significant interruptions to our learning. Now is an excellent opportunity to establish a study plan to prevent assessment deadlines from being overlooked due to the term’s busyness or last-minute cramming before an exam.
Study Planners are discussed with students during their mentoring meetings and can be found on the Lauries Learning Gateway – Student Portal. A wall planner like this acts as a visual reminder of revision and assignments that the whole family can be aware of.
If your son needs assistance with any of this, ask him to work with his House Mentor or Ms Kentrotis (Head of Teaching and Learning – Middle School) or Ms Tait (Head of Teaching and Learning – Senior School).
Year 11 End of Unit 1 Assessment Block
Year 11 students will begin their Assessment block on Wednesday 8 May – Tuesday 14 May. A reminder that students need to follow assessment block expectations. These include:
- Students are to travel to and from school in full school uniform. This is regardless of the purpose of attendance and the length of time on campus,
- Students are only allowed to be at school outside of exams times if they are studying or seeking teacher guidance,
- Students are to arrive at least 30mins before their schedule start time,
- Students are to arrive with the correct equipment,
Your assistance with ensuring that these expectations are adhered to is greatly appreciated.
PISA for Schools Testing
Our 15-year-old students will be sitting the PISA for School test on Tuesday 14 May. This is a low stakes test that allows us as a college to benchmark ourselves in Mathematics, Reading and Science against other Australian and International Schools and provides evidence decision making in our curriculum and assessment. It also provides a well-rounded “health check” of the College’s academic performance, teaching environment and social-emotional skills.
