From the Pastoral Office
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Another busy week has come to a close at the College and I hope that students have settled back into a positive routine by establishing a study timetable, balancing their commitments and practicing self-care through thoughtful nutrition, rest and relaxation.
Date Claimer - Year 7 Parent & Son Evening
An invitation has just been sent to our Year 7 parents inviting them to attend the Year 7 Parent & Son Evening which will be held at the College on the evening of Tuesday 3 March. We are looking forward to giving a parent/caregiver and their son the opportunity to rotate through five workshops where they will learn more about Lauries and each other. RSVP by Tuesday 24 February to secure your place. This event is free of charge and begins at ERPAC Level 6 with a light meal at 5.30pm.
Lauries Journey
For parents and caregivers new to Lauries, it is important that you are aware of the timetabled Lauries Journey classes that occur every Day 8 for students in Years 7 to 12. Our Year 7s will have their first LJ lesson for the year next week, as they missed Week 2 due to Year 7 camp, and it will focus on ‘From Overwhelmed to Organised’. It would be wonderful for parents and caregivers to chat to ask their son/s this Wednesday night and ask about the focus of their LJ lesson. Hopefully they can tell you that the focus was:
- Year 7 – ‘From Overwhelmed to Organised’
- Year 8 – ‘The Ban on Social Media’
- Year 9 – ‘The Year Ahead – Goal Setting and Personal Vision Statement’
- Year 10 – ‘Financial Literacy – Budgeting Basics’
- Year 11 - ‘Self-care for the Year Ahead’
- Year 12 – ‘Stress and Coping Strategies’
Essentially, students are reminded that that LJ lessons are essentially a toolbox that contain important topics, information and strategies that are essential for our personal development, engagement and wellbeing.
Year 7 Program & Camp
Our Year 7 induction/transition program concluded last Friday and I feel that it has been of great value to many students. In Week 1, students engaged in various formation lessons which were strategically designed to assist students to find their feet in Lauries Middle School. This was then complemented by our three-day camp, Retreat day and Academic Induction day. I would like to acknowledge the work of all staff who contributed to this program over the past two weeks delivering formation lessons, Retreat sessions and academic testing. For of our Heads of House, Ms Michelle Guerrero, Old Boys, members of our Diverse Learning and Counselling teams who attended Year 7 camp, a huge thank you! Their time and energy allowed students to experience camp, make connections and give them the chance to learn outside of the classroom.
The Coming Week
We look forward to our Week 4 events, in particular our Opening Mass on Wednesday and the Year 9 Rite Journey ‘Call and Departure’ ceremony on Thursday.
Best wishes for the coming week.
