Principal's Address

I write to wish all our prospective families a safe and happy mid-year break. Semester 1 has been eventful at St Laurence’s College, with the completion of exams and assessment for most students, our House Choir competition has been sung and won plus the completion of our new amenities block, the prototype Senior Studies Room and the Westcourt Café, have been highlights of the many happenings at Lauries.

While the inclement weather of March washed away the inaugural Lauries Sunset Soiree, we look forward to the 110 Year Gala Ball at the Star Casino later this year, our annual Jazz on the Hill Concert in October and wish our Year 12’s the best of luck for the completion of their certificate courses and mock external exams at the end of Term 3.

We have also now concluded Associated Independent Colleges (AIC) Sports for Trimester 2. Our Football finished first in the aggregate, Chess placing second and Rugby third. With over 1,200 students from the College playing Term 2 Sport in the AIC, the competition has never been healthier. The AIC is now one of the largest school sporting associations in Australia. Even more pleasing is the Colleges ability to support students who would like to participate outside of the AIC competition through the school-based Colours Cup Competition. Colours Cup continues to grow across each Term.

To assist student involvement in the AIC sporting competition, the College recently announced upgrades to the Runcorn Sporting Facilities that will provide state-of-the-art playing surfaces on Fields 1, 2 and 3, in addition to added resourcing for most sports. Further details regarding the upgrades are available HERE.

Just recently, the College revamped its Strategic Plan for 2024 to 2026. This document will allow for a deliberate and intentional approach to the work of the College Leadership Team ensuring that St Laurence’s College continues to fulfil the mission of a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition. This document is an ambitious three-year plan that enables the College to remain relevant and life giving for our community.

Again, I wish you all well over the mid-year break and safe travels to those who are venturing away from home. We look forward to seeing you soon as you commence or continue your Lauries Journey.

MR BEN LOWRIE
