Lauries Primary Curriculum Update

Year 6: NAPLAN Preparation and Transitioning to High School

As part of the transition to Year 7, our Year 6 students have begun developing the key skills needed for the 2026 NAPLAN assessments. In class, they’ve been exploring a range of test-taking strategies to help them approach NAPLAN with confidence. This includes familiarising themselves with the NAPLAN Demonstration Site, which offers practice questions and simulates the test format.

Students have also been strengthening essential skills such as reading comprehension, time management, and maintaining a calm, focused mindset during assessments. These efforts form part of a broader commitment to ensuring our Year 6 learners feel well-prepared for the next stage of their educational journey. Additional practice and support will continue into the early weeks of Year 7.

Year 5: Exploring Science with the Magic Balloons Experiment

Later this term, our Year 5 students will have the exciting opportunity to conduct a hands-on experiment—Magic Balloons—in the high school science laboratories. In this activity, students will mix bicarbonate of soda with vinegar to trigger a chemical reaction that inflates a balloon.

This engaging experiment is designed to spark curiosity and deepen students’ understanding of chemical reactions, scientific inquiry, and the process of experimentation. We’re looking forward to seeing their enthusiasm as they experience real-world science in a high school setting.

We wish both year levels all the best for the next few weeks of term as they continue to actively engage in learning, complete assessments, and participate in end-of-year events.
